BAMA AT HOME FRIDAYTuscaloosa, AL - The University Women's Wheelchair Basketball teams host the final collegiate tournament of the season this weekend on February 24th and 25th. The weekend kicks off with the first ever wheelchair basketball game to be played at historic Foster Auditorium on Friday Night at 7 PM against the 3rd ranked University of Illinois. General Admission is $5, Alabama students and children under 10 free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on Friday starting at 6 PM or by visiting the 98 TXT website at www.98txt.com
On Saturday night at 7 PM Alabama will play against the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. The game will be a rematch of last years national championship. Admission to the Saturday night game is free. Come out and support Alabama Wheelchair Basketball at 7 PM on Friday night at Foster and 7 PM on Saturday night at the Recreation Center. Roll Tide! TIDE ROLLS ON THE ROADWhitewater, WI - The Alabama women swept all three of their games of the weekend with victories over the University of Illinois, Wisconsin Whitewater and Edinboro University. The Tide opened play with a 78-43 win over rival University of Illinois. Alabama shot 58% from the field including 67% from the 3 point line to take a 14 point lead at the half and never looked back. Four Alabama players scored in double digits led by Karolina Lingyte who scored 29 points while shooting 72% from the field to go with 7 rebounds. Lingyte was also perfect at the free throw line and behind the 3 point arc. Elisha Williams went 7 for 10 from the field to score 15 points and pull 8 rebounds. Cindy Ouellet scored 14 points to go with 8 assists and Kimmie Champion chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds.
In their second game of the day on Saturday, Alabama played a rematch of the National Championship game against the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater on their home floor. In a game that featured multiple lead changes and runs by both teams the Crimson Tide held on for a 63-59 win. Karolina Lingyte scored with 25 seconds to play to give Alabama the lead for good. Lingyte led four Alabama players in double figures and finished with 23 points on 62% shooting from the field to go with 10 rebounds. Team Captain, Cindy Ouellet scored 14 points on 64% shooting from the field to go with 10 assists. Annika Zeyen droped in 12 points and Elisha Williams scored 10 for Alabama. Alabama played their third game in 6 hours against Edinboro University and completed the weekend sweep with a 53-22 win. The freshman duo of Maude Jaques and Caitlin McDermott scored 12 points each for Alabama while sophomore Mackenzie Soldan scored 9 points, pulled 11 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. The Alabama women are now 15-7 on the year and will play at home the next two weekends. BAMA WINS AT HOMETuscaloosa, AL - The Alabama men's and women's teams finished a competitive day of basketball this weekend against the Alabama All-Stars, a team of select players from teams across Alabama. The University of Alabama Women's Team split their two games this weekend against the Alabama All-Stars. Alabama led 24-21 at the half before letting the first game slip away by a score of 48-52. The Tide was led in scoring by Cindy Ouellet and Karolina Lingyte with 18 points each. Alabama exacted some revenge in the second game against the All Stars with a 68-52 victory. Cindy Ouellet scored 21 points for Alabama followed by 16 from Karolina Lingyte and 14 from Annika Zeyen. The Tide is now 12-7 on the season and will have one more tune-up this weekend before traveling to Whitewater to resume conference play.
ALABAMA WINS PIONEERBirmingham, AL - The Alabama women kicked off 2012 by winning their 4th straight Pioneer Classic Alabama Defeated the University llinois in the Championship game by a score of 75-42. The Alabama women were paced in scoring by Cindy Ouellet with 20 points on 10 for 15 shooting to go with 7 assists. Karolina Lingyte scored 19 points on 9 for 14 shooting and pulled 10 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Elisha Williams scored 18 points and had 8 assists and Kimmie Champion scored 12 points on 6 for 7 shooting from the field. Earlier in the tournament the Crimson Tide suffered a close loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks men's team by the score of 48 to 51. The cold shooting Tide held the lead for much of the second half but could not finish out the game against the eventual D3 Champions of the Tournament. Karolina Lingyte scored 18 points to lead Alabama in scoring. Anika Zeyen was the only Alabama player to find the bucket for the Tide in going 6-9 from the field with 12 points. The Crimson Tide bounced back in the second game of the tournament with close win over the UTA Men's B Team by the score of 67-62. Karolina Lingyte notched a double double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Cindy Ouellet shot 8 for 12 from the field to score 16 points and Annika Zeyen continued her hot shooting going 9 for 12 from the field and scoring 18 points. Emily Seelenfreund scored 4 points and took control of the game on the defensive end of the floor by picking up the leading scorers of the Freewheelers full court. In a warm-up to the Championship game Alabama defeated the University of Illinois by jumping out to a 19 point lead and cruising home for a 57-47 win. Annika Zeyen was again deadly from the field with 16 points on 6 for 9 shooting. Karolina Lingyte notched another double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Cindy Ouellet scored 11 points and dished out 5 assists while Elisha Williams and Kimmie Champion scored 10 and 6 points each for the Tide. Annika Zeyen won the Award for Best Class I at the tournament and Kimmie Champion won the Sportsmanship Award. The Alabama Women are now 11-6 on the Season.
