TIDE PLAYS AT FOSTER FRIDAYTuscaloosa, AL - The University of Alabama Men host the final collegiate tournament of the season this weekend on February 24th and 25th. The weekend kicks off with the first ever wheelchair basketball games to be played at historic Foster Auditorium with a double header on Friday Night starting at 7 PM against the University of Illinois. General Admission is $5, Alabama students and children under 10 free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on Friday starting at 6 PM or by visiting the 98 TXT website at www.98txt.com
On Saturday night at 7 PM Alabama will host another double header against the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. Admission to the Saturday night game is free. Come out and support Alabama Wheelchair Basketball at 7 PM on Friday night at Foster and 7 PM on Saturday night at the Recreation Center. Roll Tide! TIDE MEN SURVIVE ROAD TRIPTuscaloosa, AL - The Alabama Men completed a grueling road trip to the frozen north this weekend and came away with 3 victories. The team endured a 16 hour bus ride that was slowed due to the bad weather and then played a total of 5 games in 24 hours. The Alabama men came away with 3 victories over the University of Missouri, Edinboro University and Southwest State before dropping close games to the University of Illinois and Wisconsin Whitewater. The Alabama men are now 18-7 on the year and will play at home the next two weekends.
BAMA MEN TAKE 3RD AT PIONEERBirmingham, AL - The University of Alabama Men's wheelchair basketball team finished 3rd in the 2012, Pioneer Classic at Lakeshore Foundation. The ultra-strong field saw 'bama playing nothing but the best teams in the country.In the opener, the crimson tide sustained a slow start to wear down the Charlottesville Cardinals, 70-42. Ryan Hynes, Mark Booth and Kyle Killworth all led the team in scoring with 17 points. Later that afternoon the tide used a 24-2 mid-game run to defeat the University of Illinois Men, 79-52. Jared Arambula led all scorers with 35 points. Hynes and Booth tallied 16 and 10. Day two, saw the crimson tide face the tall task of confronting the NWBA champion, Dallas Mavericks. The tide used two, late first half baskets to tie the game at intermission, and pulled ahead of the Mavericks with under 10 minutes to go in the game. Three late turnovers, and the ejection of Jared Arambula were all too much as the Mavericks pulled away 61-53. Kyle Killworth led the tide with 14 points, Jared Arambula had 11, as Mark Booth and Bo Hedges both had 10. With pool play over the tide defeated Atlanta's Shepherd Stealers 66-54. Ryan Hynes led the way with 23 points. In the semi-final the tide faced collegiate foe UTA Movin' Mavericks. The back and forth game had UTA winning it at the free throw line with 1.3 seconds to play, 55-54. Jared Arambula led all scorers with 20 points. Disappointed, the tide played in the third place game defeating the Orlando Magic 79-64. Led by second semester newcomer Bo Hedges, and his 16 points the tide pulled away in the second half to win going away. Ryan Hynes added a team high 22 points, while Killworth and Arambula added 13 and 12 respectively.The team record is now 14-5.
TIDE MEN ROLL AT HOME
Tuscaloosa, AL -The Alabama Men won their final home game by the score of 88 to 52 over the Shepherd Stealers in front of a raucus crowd for the game which was televised on WVUA. Jared Arambula led all scorers with 36 points and Ryan Hynes chipped in 29 for a dominating performance by the Tide. Last weekend the Alabama men overpowered the Lakeshore Storm on Saturday night for a 87 to 34 win. Alabama are now 10-3 on the year and will take a break for the holidays before returning to action on January 13th in Birmingham at the Pioneer Classic.
